Welcome Aboard! New York State Parks Bureau of Marine Services has over 55 years of experience teaching New Yorkers how to operate their boats safely. The in-classroom course option is designed as a comprehensive study of boating safety to teach the fundamentals of safe boating operation. This course is an 8-hour instructor lead course that will finish with a 50 question multiple choice exam. Satisfactory completion of the course will earn you the Boater Safety Certificate required to operate a personal watercraft or a motorboat for individuals with a date of birth on or after 5/1/96. The course has been approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and your permanent Boater Safety Certificate will be good for life. The course may also qualify you for up to a 15% discount annually on your watercraft insurance. All individuals will be required to attend all 8 hours of the classroom instruction and must be at least 10 years of age.
